I will retire when I can AFFORD to retire...
On Sept. 21, 2011, I hosted a Retirement 101® Free Webinar with Guest John Armstrong, Founder of the Retirement 101® Program. Although I have heard John speak many times over the years, it amazes me that his passion is as fresh as it was when he started his career 24 years ago.
John is a Certified Financial Planner which means he has the qualifications and knowledge to create and manage client’s expectations through their Financial Plans.
One of the common themes he sees in his practice is that people focus on the money issues without dealing with the emotional or psychological issues of retirement. For example, people may be afraid or anxious about not having enough money to retire. If they don’t know what they will do once work is done, how can they know how much they need? The first step is to create the Retirement Plan. During the Retirement 101® Program, there are no financial products promoted.
John explained that in order to have a successful transition in Retirement, there are 4 emotions that can get in the way: resistance, confusion, anxiety, frustration. When a person is not motivated they will encounter resistance to Retirement. If a person experiences confusion, their vision for retirement may not be clear. If a person is anxious they may be lacking the expertise to coach them through the process of co-ordinating the retirement plan and financial plan. If a person is frustrated they may have the plan and have not implemented it yet.
That sounds like procrastination to me……
To stop procrastination requires action. The people on the call today were taking action to stop the procrastination and gather knowledge for their Retirement success. I commend all of you for taking that step. It is hard when you are still working 35- 40 hours a week, have kids in sports or college.
My story is simple. I know I want to retire. I know I want to retire before I am 65. I know what I want my retirement to look like and I have a financial plan that will help me get there. I invite you to start your journey; it is not as scary as you think. In fact, it can be fun! Here is the link to the Free Webinar that John and I did on Sept. 21, 2011. Want to jump in now? Then, register for the Retirement 101® Program offered online that Starts October 11th. Join us if you can.
I can honestly say that I have the freedom to live in the NOW because the picture is clear for the future. Your freedom is in reach!
